Intuition: Understanding your Yes, No and Maybe

Your intuition is your superpower. But what if you are only utilising a small portion of your superpower? You'd want to understand how to use it to its full capacity, right? In this article, we’ll explore not only how to use your intuition to determine your next right step, but how to use it to start seeing the entire pathway.

What is your intuition telling you?

Following our intuition can help us determine what the next immediate step is. Feel into the situation or decision you’re making, then follow wherever the the feelings may lead us.

What does intuition feel like?

  • Positive Yes: We take action.

  • Less Positive Feeling: We wait or get a maybe.

  • Contraction or Nausea: We get a no.

We can take steps along our journey using this very simple yes / no / maybe approach — but we may be missing the bigger picture.

Beyond an intuitive yes / no / maybe

We start to add context to our intuitive yeses, maybes and even the no. We start to realise that sick, nauseated feeling actually might not mean no at all. But perhaps we learn that it's an invitation to come in deeper. To understand why we have that feeling and to come in underneath it where all the deeper excavation is.

After all, our soul isn't a magic eight ball, and to treat it as such limits its full power. If I had access to a superpower, you better believe I’m going to maximise its function.

Before we can really harness our intuitive superpower, we need to understand how to use its basic functions. We need to know how to tune into our intuition, how to determine a yes, a no, and a maybe, and how to take that next right step.

What is an Intuitive "Yes"?

Think: full-body yes. A wave of excitement. Tingles all over your body. Your mouth says yes before your head interjects.

Consider: “where in my life if I had that full body yes before.”

Even if not a full-body yes, an intuitive yes may still feel joyful or abundant. It feels like I’m being lit up. Another way I know a yes is when the opportunity that arrives, or the choice I’m trying to make, matches the intention or feeling I’ve been trying to cultivate.

For example, if I am intending to create more spaciousness and then an opportunity comes along that helps me to feel more spacious, that would likely be a yes. However, if I’m intending spaciousness but am offered a job with an 80 hour work week, it’s unlikely to give me a full body yes.

Yeses may also arrive through my spirit guides confirming with a whole bunch of signs and symbols confirming it.

I've written about signs and symbols in my book You Already Know, but let me say here: We have to be objective!

You can also pull oracle cards to add context or insight. It's very rare for an oracle card to give you a simple yes, no, or maybe, but when you start to pull the oracle card around change, and you've been asking about making a change, then you could have that as a confirmation.

What is an Intuitive "Maybe"?

For me, a maybe usually feels like a pause. Sometimes even when I’m doing client sessions, if you’ve had a session with me before, you would have seen me do this. It’s kind of like I just pause. It’s like a deer in the headlights. And I will often look off to the side because I’m listening to Chris, but even in my day to day interactions sometimes I just stop. Something's asked of me. Something's caused a moment for pause. It literally is just a pause and the more that I have paid attention, the more I realise those pauses are there.

It can often feel like I can't get a clear no, but I also can't get a clear yes. So there's no sensations in my body, or I may feel quite confused.

Usually a ‘maybe’ is usually asking me to go a bit deeper, or review the question I’m asking for guidance on.

Receiving a pause, confusion or even neutrality is actually very rich intuitive data. It doesn't only mean don't take that next immediate step. It just means not yet.

What is an Intuitive "No"?

Just like the yes, a no is often a full-body no. I can feel repulsed, icky, or nauseated. It’s nuanced, and I now know the difference between that sick feeling as a no or as me being fearful.

Resistance is not a no. Resistance usually falls into that maybe category. Resistance is usually a sign that we need to go in deeper, do more work, and use our intuition as a navigation tool inward.

Beyond the immediate next step

As useful as an intuitive yes / no /maybe may be, if we’re only ever looking at the next immediate step, we aren’t going to have a view of the big picture. Being focused on the next immediate step is important, but it is not a long-term strategy. Instead, we need to consider what else our guidance is telling us.

The Three Threads of Guidance

All of the guidance we receive can fall into one of three categories, or what I call the Three Threads of Guidance:

  1. Daily intuitive instruction

  2. Required healing

  3. Overarching purpose.

Depending on where you are in your own journey, your purpose in its entirety is unlikely to just land at your feet on day one.

We want all three threads of guidance—daily intuitive instruction, required healing, and purpose—to be working together. We need to understand how these layers of guidance work together and what they’re trying to lead us through.

I suggest reflecting on your yes, no, and maybe experiences. Are you ready to develop your intuitive skills further and integrate the three threads of guidance into your life? There are various resources and programs to help you get started and deepen your journey.

Your intuition is a powerful tool, and learning to harness it fully can lead to profound insights and transformative experiences.

By understanding and tuning into the yes, no, and maybe signals from your intuition, you can navigate your path with greater clarity and confidence. Remember, it’s not just about the next step; it’s about seeing the entire pathway and embracing the journey.
