7 ways reflection builds intuition

Intuition is often relied upon to help us determine the future and the pathway forward, so it's easy to think looking back isn't as useful.

However, including a reflection practice as part of your guidance practice is a sure-fire way to help you build your intuition.

Reflecting on our impressions, hunches and predictions is one of the most important parts of working with our intuition. Without it, we can’t measure our progress.

Yes, 'measuring progress' almost seems like an oxymoron when it comes to intuition. Ideally we want our head and heart to work in harmony. But the head wants facts and proof... exactly what your intuitive reflection will serve up. It’s one of the key ways to get both your head and heart onto the intuitive program – and stay there.

Besides balancing the head and heart, here are another six reasons to complete your reflection process at the end of the month.

How reflection builds intuition

  1. Closes the loop.

For all the talk of setting an intention, there's less focus on closing out that intention. When we're asking for guidance but not acknowledging or receiving it, we leave energetic loops open, like tabs on a computer. Sending so much out into the Universe that never completes or closes leaves you  energetically open and even scattered. Not a good place to intuit from.

  2. Gain proof.

Reflection shows how your intuition and personal hunches came to fruition, and how they panned out. You can see there is some method to what you’re feeling and sensing – which means your mind will have to start paying attention. In Follow Your Heart, I suggest you work through a process of daily, weekly, monthly and even quarterly reflection to notice their intuitive impressions and interpretations, how they came true (or not) and what to do about it. When your mind can see it, it can believe it.

  3. Learn to interpret your intuition differently.

Sometimes we will interpret our psychic predictions and intuitive insights a little off the mark. When we feel like we got our intuition wrong, reflection allows us to identify how we were off the mark, so we can build our intuitive reference library for next time.

  4. Self-awareness.

Reflection highlights areas for growth and change. When we follow a regular guidance practice, including reflecting on what we've intuited, we can see ourselves, our actions, intentions and desires in new ways. For example, when we reflect on our Guided Journal in our community, you see the repeating phrases, signs, messages – and then realise the steps you need to take. All those times you journaled, or pulled an oracle card, or had a sign about (insert your sign here) may be the exact Intuitive Instruction you need to act upon. And you might have missed it if you didn't reflect.

  5. The ARIA Method in action.

I teach the ARIA Method as a way of Asking for, Receiving, Interpreting and Acting on the guidance you receive. When you reflect on your progress with this method, you'll see exactly how you asked and all the ways the Universe delivered. How's that for proof?!

  6. Gratitude.

Failing to recognise and give thanks for the gifts we receive —including our guidance, our opportunities and manifestations— then we miss the true element of receiving (and important part of the ARIA Method). Failing to gratefully receive means we (a) not only miss out on receiving but (b) we send a message to the Universe that we don’t want to receive more. Reflecting allows us to be grateful for all the ways our guidance and the Universe is helping us follow our heart.

To benefit from your own guidance practice, be sure to include a regular reflection process.
