Resetting Our Collective Nervous System

Why should we reset our nervous system

Throughout this year, Spirit has been reminding us to reset our nervous systems. Here’s a snippet from the 2024 Annual Guided Collective Energy Forecast:

Self love (our annual theme) also brings …themes around healing. And … some of the messages that keep repeating as I'm tuning into the collective is resetting our nervous systems.

Now, the nervous system is not necessarily an area of my expertise (although, I would recommend Jenn at Guided Being) but I do believe it's our parasympathetic nervous system we want to come back to, both individually and collectively.

After a few years of global stresses, some years worse than others, Spirit shows me that we have not yet collectively healed, that our collective nervous system needs repair and that there is a correlation between our collective nervous system and the earth.

We have had an extended state of hyper-vigilance —and that is no good for anybody, nor the collective. These stresses have not necessarily completely gone away, and even if they have, our systems don’t know the difference. For example, we have moved on from that lockdown, fear driven years of the pandemic, but there are still other stresses in place on our nervous systems.

There are knock on effects and repercussions from that time financially, in the economy, in our geopolitical landscape. There's still a recovery process and frankly, no one is talking about it.

This is what Spirit means in the Annual Collective Energy forecast, with our theme of Self Love —we have a chance in 2024 to maximise our individual and collective healing — and we need to learn how to soothe.

Self soothing to restore and reset our nervous system, moving us out of that fight-or-flight state and back into a real sense of inner (and outer) peace.


What does it mean to reset your nervous system?

What does resetting our nervous system really mean? Well, when I asked Spirit, this is what they said:

  • as a collective, our stress levels are way too high. Spirit is flagging that we have had sustained stressors over recent years and this needs to be addressed.

  • We can feel our own individual nervous systems and stress levels, but Spirit is also referring to a collective nervous system — it clairvoyantly looks as if we were all one, and we had a representative central nervous system, it'd be under a lot of stress.

  • our nervous systems talk to one another; when we reset our individual nervous systems, we will feed into the whole in a more positive way. So it may feel like you taking care of your stress levels doesn't matter much in the scheme of things, but it does. If we have a collective energy field, and a collective nervous system, it is the sum of its parts. What you do matters.

The connection between an individual, collective and earth’s nervous systems

  • Spirit also shares the idea here that we, as a collective, with a collective energy field and nervous system, are also inherently linked to the earth — so this reset isn't just about us individually, or as a group, but in relation to the earth. Think of it this way: a mother and child are bonded; the mother's energy can set the tone for the whole house, so it is with the collective energy, and the earth's energy and vice versa.

  • Our earth isn't just a physical, living breathing entity — it too has a spirit and soul, an energetic body and its own soul blueprint.


Why do we need to reset our nervous system?

A nervous system running at optimal levels will contribute towards improved sleep, appetite, digestion and emotional regulation — and that's before we add the additional needs of a neurodivergent nervous system. When we reset our nervous system, we reduce stress levels and return to optimal bodily functioning.

Perhaps core to Spirit’s nudge to reset our nervous systems is that in that sense of calm, we can also better hear our intuition, sense our energy and therefore make real change!

If I interpret for spirit here again... we've been in suspended state of stress, we are becoming more and more disconnected from our bodies, our emotions and our true selves when we are off balance, so is our Earth.

Resetting our nervous system will help reset us and our earth.

How to reset your nervous system

So, now we know why we should reset our nervous systems, let’s look at how do we actually do it.

Spirit tells me there is a reason they include Stillness, Space and Silence as the bedrock of the guidance practice. In that stillness space and silence, we begin to reset our nervous system. And, as we create stillness, space a nd silence individually we can effect collective change.

A quick Google search on ‘how to reset your nervous system’ will likely bring up many of the following:

  • breathing

  • meditation

  • mindfulness

  • creativity

  • singing

  • laughing

…which is a very similar list to the one I share in my books and courses as part of your guidance practice.

Does resetting your nervous system improve intuition?

I've got to say, I do an awful lot of those resetting your nervous system activities listed above on the regular. Perhaps for you, too? They aren’t so unfamiliar for those of us on a spiritual path.

There are times, of course, when it’s simply not enough. And, for some of us, we may require additional support, or to understand the nervous system in light of our unique circumstances, for example:

  • significant (or even less significant) traumas effect our nervous system over time

  • neurodivergence or other neurological conditions impact our nervous system

  • sustained or unaddressed emotional disregulation can have a continued impact on our nervous system

A similar idea came up with long-term private mentoring client recently, as we discussed the impacts of indecision on the nervous system. When we stay in indecision, or avoidance we put additional pressure on our nervous system.

An optimal nervous system helps us hear our intuition and to act on it.
